Three BESS projects totalling 7.8GWh in Saudi Arabia have been connected to the electricity grid, technology provider Sungrow said.
The projects are in Najran, Khamis Mushait, and Madaya and comprise over 1,500 PowerTitan 2.0 AC block units from inverter and battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturer Sungrow.
Sungrow and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider Algihaz Holding signed the deal for the project in July 2024, and Sungrow manufactured the units for the project in 58 days, it revealed in April this year.
The project will contributes to Saudi Arabia’s decarbonisation goals under its Vision 2030, and is one of several mega-scale projects the state has progressed throughout 2025.
The year kicked off with Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) revealing the bidders for an 8GWh BESS tender. Later in January came the news that the 500MW/2GWh Bisha BESS project has gone into operation, built by a subsidiary of the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina).
In February, BYD got an order from state utility and TSO Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for 12.5GW which, combined with an existing smaller order, brought its total supply deal with the company to 15.1GWh. In August, SEC ordered technology from Hithium for a 4GWh project.
